| The White Oak was designated the Maryland state tree in 1941. The most famous example of the White Oak was the Wye Oak at Wye Mills, Maryland. The White Oak is named for its whiteish bark and grey twigs. The oak's acorn is a food for over 80 species of birds and mammals.
